You're completely right and I agree. If you're not going to advocate for yourself, why should anybody else? This is something I'm trying to teach my teenage children. You have to be your biggest fan and your biggest advocate because people believe in those who believe in themselves.

Most people’s gut and instinct are awful.

Agreed, those are both incredibly important in work and in life. Did you have something happen recently where you ended up having to advocate for yourself?

Years ago I had a wise old corporate warrior tell me "sometimes all you need is confidence." It was one of those comments that just stuck in my head. There have been times when it has come to mind when I had to dig in and advocate for myself.

You are right with this.

Past me would've benefited immensely from this message. I spent way too much time being underpaid by crummy companies when I should have been trying to get out ASAP.

What are your thoughts on pay discrepancies based on family structure? Ex. Two people do the same job but one is paid more or given a larger bonus “because they have kids and you live alone” or “because their family is struggling”. Is that an ethical factor if both employees do the same job at the same pace, quality, etc?

Would any of your companies be willing to hire as a legal counsel an attorney with 9+ YOE but in the process of being licensed in the US? Should I not even bother to apply until I am barred?

Hello!

I joined Accenture 5 months back as a lateral hire ( Level 11 ) and have been a part of a project since day one.

I am not enjoying my work here, no motivation at all. Dreaded to report to work and having stress and anxiety. My manager is trying to micromanage me as productivity is on the lower side.

Another thing is, I have started to dislike my current tech and no more interested in it.
What are my options here ?
Is project release possible ?
or I have to put down papers ?

Interview tomorrow for a tax associate opening at RSM. Been working in a mid-size city (different firm) that is about 70 minutes from this new home office in a larger metro. How flexible is WFH or dual model going forward post Covid? Am interested in this position and going to tax, but not be able to relocate for family reasons. Don’t want to drive 700 miles per week M-F. What will dual model be like going forward? 1-2 times week, 4-5 month? Seems like tax was more flexible than audit pre-Covid

My parents are visiting this week and mom and I made dinner tonight. Salmon is seasoned with Trader Joe’s ajika (a Georgian spice blend) and we just roasted the broccoli. The standout is the mejadara. It’s spiced rice and lentils with fried onions and is popular throughout the Middle East. We used the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook, Jerusalem.

Anyone looking at traveling to Costa Rica? They have a list of states from which they will admit tourists while also requiring a negative covid test, health history, etc. As someone not on the approved list, I am bitter and curious why the population is grouped at a state level when there are massively different rates of infection within each state (not to mention personal responsibility) and you are already required to present a negative test. Any idea how often those lists get updated?

Is anyone else unfollowing all “influencers” on Instagram? I’m finding their posts to be so out of touch with what’s happening across the global to people’s lives (both health-wise and economy-wise.) They’re still trying to push a more is better mindset. I get that’s part of their business model, but I just can’t take it anymore.
