Would any of your companies be willing to hire as a legal counsel an attorney with 9+ YOE but in the process of being licensed in the US? Should I not even bother to apply until I am barred?

First year staff and I think this job is making my depression come back. I find no meaning whatsoever in what I do and just want to cry every morning thinking of going to work.

Did you do the NIPT? I just had my first prenatal appt and they scheduled me for the NIPT at 10 weeks. I’m a little nervous and anxious. Did anyone get it and got a false positive? Do you not recommend it? I wish I could ask family but we’re not telling anyone until the 12 weeks mark.

- I didn't get selected in the H1B lottery.
- My company has agreed to send me to their London office for a year (haven't yet filed application).
- OPT ends in late June, so I can stay till mid-late August (grace period).

Question:
Should I just move to London as soon as I'm able to, or is it worth waiting until the end of my OPT in August in case they do a second round of the H1B lottery?

Starting a new job next month, and considering taking two days off for kids’ spring break next month. Not sure whether it’s appropriate to request time off for a new job (I would’ve preferred not to take any time off for first three months). Those who have returned to a law firm from being in-house - what was your experience like? If you hated a firm the first time, was it better the second time around? I swore I’d never go back, but seeing the newest round of BigLaw raises and salary increases I am genuinely considering it - I’m getting married and planning for kids shortly, and would like to buy a home in our HCOL city, and while I’m not starving on my in-house salary and am fairly frugal, I don’t feel like we have much cushion.

What would be a reasonable salary for a 3rd year lawyer in house at a real estate development company with a total of 3 lawyers (they are co-gcs for different parts of the company)? I’d be the 4th lawyer in the department as a whole. HCOL area.

It should have been addressed & emailed to me, and copy the business folks, when an attorney knows the other side is represented by an attorney. Am I overreacting for being annoyed?

I just accepted a corporate counsel role with a large Fortune 500 company. Any advice or thoughts on make the transition from a firm to in house?

When my job is to handle all the corporations issues does it ever get hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel? Like that this business will survive? It will get its next round of funding? This litigation won’t wipe us out… something’s I just become very pessimistic about the future of the company.

Any advice on a first year trying to transition from family law to in-house? I always thought family law was my path, and used to enjoy it, but it’s not the direction I want to head in anymore. I don’t think I even want to continue with any litigation work. I’m having a hard time finding firms that are hiring entry level associate positions that don’t require at least 3+ years experience in-house. Should I start at a business law firm to get experience working with corporations first?
