Deloitte experienced hires, who all received written offers and in process of visa/ onboarding, have you heard back anything about hiring freeze? Or recruiter asked you to delay joining date?
My visa got submitted couple of days back and waiting for decision. When I reached out to recruiter to give her an update and mentioned once there’s decision will discuss on the start date before putting my 2 weeks, she mentioned “Yes, we should talk before you put notice” - Am I overthinking? Very naive. Settle down. Put in your time. Do the work. It'll come eventually.
Nobody has autonomy
I certainly appreciate how important autonomy is for strategy.
Perhaps you can suggest low-risk, helpful internal projects in addition to your day-to-day? Trend analysis, deep dives into audience behaviors online and IRL etc. So while you’re adding value by supporting the client work, you’re also proving your intellect and interest to your team as well.
When you’re junior and fighting to prove your worth, it’s those that go above and beyond that become the team mates people ask for. And that’s how you get the best work. And that’s how you build a rep in your agency. And then the true autonomy comes
Where did the expectation that you would have autonomy originate? College? Parents?
Yes. You don't give someone the keys to the kingdom until they've proven they won't lose them in the river.
You'll get more autonomy once you've proven that you know what you're doing. That takes time.
Yeah, you sound a little...entitled. Sorry, but we all gotta suck it up and follow orders. You’ll get autonomy when you’re proven yourself
Free will is a myth.
The fact that you ask this question shows that you have initiative and are not afraid of accountability. If you were on my team, I would be workin to give you the training and exposure to the right experiences in order to help you move to a more autonomous role. But a year or 2 in is a bit early. Be patient, learn from everything and everyone around you, and communicate to your supervisor that you are interested in more autonomy. It’s not always about a micromanager or lack of trust. Sometimes a supervisor wants to make sure you are prepared to move forward so you are set up for success. Good luck!
A little. Talk to your manager. Ask if they think you’re ready. Maybe you’re not
