They really thought this one through. I'd probably still go in. Sounds beyond chaotic, but I'd be too worried about losing my job in this market not to show up.
They called me about a job interview. I think they were put off a bit by my hysterical laughter. Needless to say I didn't interview and am happy working somewhere else with better comp and suggested RTO3.
If I needed the job, and I assume I would as I have no trust fund to cruise on, I would just go in. I wouldn't worry too much about the shortages of desks. I assume they'll do what everybody else does when they need stuff, order it from Amazon.
I am immunocompromised due to taking antibody drug conjugate med to keep me in remission from a previous breast cancer diagonsis in 2017. I was hired by my current company in June 2024 with the expectation it was a fully remote role that might require business travel 10% of the year. I take all the precautions when I travel with masking, handwashing, etc but if I had to be in a crowded office 40+ hours a week I would spend more time out on sick leave that I would be productive. RTO mandates paint with such a broad brush that it seems much more effective to consider hybrid, flex and space / share alternatives.
I would literally just leave
Go in if you want to keep your job. They've realized that RTO is a cheaper way of reducing headcount than offering severance.
It was never about being in the office, or improved collaboration, or whatever BS they touted. It was a way to reduce headcount without firing people (those who quit because of RTO), then next round was firing people who did not comply to RTO, then actual layoffs maybe 3rd in line at best.
Go in. Look for another job while at work on your personal device.
I thought Amazon RTO’ed years ago?
If RTO5 doesn’t yield, there’s RTO6 and 7 coming!
It is just a way to weed out weirdos.

Amazon expects tenure to be low and that’s why the sign on equity hardly even vests the first couple of years.
Heard the issue was raised way earlier but the response was "if you had sit in the kitchen, so be it"...
I think all the employees should just quit so Amazon can hire new people who want to work. Then you can enjoy a couple of years looking for a job and wondering how you can pay the bills.

Go in. If it is difficult for everyone to RTO, they may reconsider. Maybe.
Yeah, plenty of people are not complying. So far, no consequences.
I'd be fine as long as they have 'hoteling' or 'camping' or a breakout space I can navigate between and some standing options for comfort. However, as someone that uses the occasional cat tree to work from home on, I'd figure it out. Adaptability is my super power.
