Any advice for dealing with a client who is chronically late to calls or blows them off entirely? I don’t even get a courtesy note about running late or having something come up. I’m getting annoyed with wasting my time prepping for calls that don’t happen and waiting on the conference line when there are other things I could be doing instead.

Clearly the client doesn’t value the calls or your time ask them if it makes more sense for you to connect biweekly monthly or even not at all only as needed. Make sure that you are documenting that your client is not having these calls I’ve seen clients blame agencies for not keeping them accountable put everything in writing.

Maybe conference calls aren’t your client’s best way of communicating. I had a client like this — she preferred emails over calls because she wasn’t super great at managing her schedule.

Does your client use a messaging platform you have access to? I can toggle my teams between my agencies and the clients teams apps so I’ve found that helps for the ones that are usually canceling meetings last minute, they can message me quicker than email. And if they’re already communicating with their colleagues on it, they’re looking at it! I also have clients who prefer texting haha because they’re in meetings, maybe even sharing their screens, but have updates or questions for me that can’t always wait. I’ve found it’s just easiest to adapt to their availability because they rely on me to get my side of their job done that they don’t have time for (pharma marketing). The clients that are used to getting/request agendas or a quick topic list before our weekly meeting usually decline the invite when the list reminds them if they aren’t able to join.

I’ve had clients like this. Honestly, we just continued to bill them and my Account Executive let them know we were billing for missed meetings them so they started to show up. I also sent them emails with what I planned to cover in the meetings so they knew what to expect. If they missed it, I emailed them any items pending. And was clear that without they’re input we could not move forward with any work. So, in a nutshell, meeting agendas, meeting follow up, and charging them so there was a consequence.

Returned from sick leave and found out from other people at the office I totally messed up on a project that I worked on prior to sick leave. Now that my reputation has been ruined and facing an upcoming negative performance review. No one at the office stood up for me despite of positive work done prior to COVID or wants to hear what I have to say. I m bothered by this gaslighting practice both professionally and personally. I felt I was designated as the scape goat. Continued.

I’m currently working at a law firm in San Diego specializing in coastal property rights as a litigation paralegal and legal assistant. We received a minute order from a preliminary injunction hearing. Our client was ordered to post an injunction bond of $2,500. First our client walked to the courthouse to try to pay the bond up front, but they would not accept his money. He tried to call several bond companies, but all said the amount was too small. So how do you post an injunction bond?

I got hired as a freelancer on a project. 2 days in and we’re off to a slow start getting access to what I need. It’s paid hourly. I blocked out time to work a full day knowing I’d dive right in but that’s not how it turned out. My question is do I bill the full day even though I only put in a few hours of kick off calls and contacting folks to get access to the things I need? It’s not my fault they were disorganized. What would you do?

I have a salary range in mind for a new role based on online research and target increase from my comp now. But my research shows the data points are for salaries in HCOL areas.
