Just give them a day rate. Say you’re open to talk from there based on the project. Keep it casual and friendly. For yourself, know what you limits are and have that worked out. Research your potential clients and understand their pressure points, high and lows of their clients why and when they hire freelance. Sometimes more work for longer stretches is better that a fat day rate.
I wouldn’t give a range cause they will go with the lower end. Talk to other freelancers in your market to get an idea of the going rate for your level. Most places will negotiate. Then it’s up to you to decide what you take. That will be based on how interested you are in the project and what offers you have on the table.
Thanks! Really appreciate the advice
I have a set day rate that covers 8 or 18 hrs and/or weekends. I sometimes come down if it’s a chance to work at someplace new/get my foot in the door.
No. It was a slight exaggeration. Sometimes you work 5 hours, sometimes 14. I charge one day rate that for me, covers the fluctuation. Same for weekend work. It shows me as a value and not a price gouger. And I have come down for a couple of places as I wanted to get my foot in the door and show them I’m worth my full normal price.
Day rate.
