I don’t know if this is state specific, but in NY they pay all PTO you accrued. And haven’t used. Here there’s a limit of 1 year of carry over PTO + anything accrued since Jan 1.

State of IL requires payout of PTO, went through it last year

As long as it is accrued.. It seems a lot of companies are switching to unlimited PTO for this reason
