Pro
Willett, Neat (Louisville), Revival (Cincinnati), and Bardstown Bourbon company
Makers is a great tour. Bardstown tasting room is awesome (tons of rare bottles). Willet food is really good.
I second makers. We went there a few years ago and everyone really loved it and we were really glad that we did it. Been to others but that would probably be at the top of my list for places to visit.
Barrel Craft Spirits in Louisville for sure
Old Forrester is the best overall experience in Louisville, hands down, but only if you’re there one of the days when the cooperage is operational - call ahead to see. (Not saying they have the best bourbon, ha, but the best tour). Willett is nice in Bardstown bc they’ve got a great restaurant you could hit up before or after a tasting.
Appreciate the tip about the cooperage!
Makers mark if going outside the cities, very beautiful property and fantastic experience
Local to Cincy - feel free to PM and I'll share some bourbon hunting tips in case you want to bring some bottles back with you. Buffalo Trace in Frankfort is a bit out of the way but a great tour/tasting. It's always sold out online but I have a 100% success rate of showing up in the morning and being able to get on a free tour.
I didn’t realize that there was a chance by just showing up at Buffalo Trace. Good to know! Will also be trying online once my dates open online.
If you’ll be in Louisville, I recommend Angel’s Envy, Rabbit Hole, and the Bardstown Bourbon satellite tasting room. They’re all within a mile or so of each other, have different approaches, and showcase some of the finest whiskies on the trail.
If possible, book in advance because summer is peak season on the bourbon trail and experiences fill up quickly. Also, each of these locations offer excellent bars onsite where you can sip on a cocktail after your guided experience.
