Any good books/free courses out there that give a taste of what HF/PE work is like? Not really looking to switch from tech, but curious about the hype around these finance jobs (besides the high pay)

Well, for starters, PE and HF aren’t the same. I do a lot of but-side DD and my clients at the VP level and below work a lot harder than I do.

Personal anecdotes or funny/horror stories about the industry also welcome!

like

Worked briefly in PE. Makes you feel like you have the largest cock in the universe. Playing with millions of dollars and determining the fate of large organizations in your 20s. Been chasing the dragon ever since...... but it makes you an asshole and demands your life so best to stay away

I would like to experience that K1. I've plugged viagra though so already have that part of the experience.

PE and HF are very different - type of person and type of work. Can’t help on the book/course front but would encourage talking to friends who are in the industry and will give you an honest perspective! I think both industries attract a certain type of person and that’s where the hype comes from.

I see allot of job posting for IT jobs have more down to earth reqs than a few years ago. The requirements seem fairly normal. A few years ago most IT job listing were looking for people with "Unicorn" Skills. They were even looking for people with 10YOE for a technology that was out for 5 years. It seems that there are many more openings than a few years ago probably also due to the fact that "remote" work is more than 30%. Is this sellers(candidate) or a buyers(company) market? Thoughts?

Deloitte: I see there is an HR policy that allows you to go 60-80% whenever you want to/in any role so long as there is a business case. Does this ever happen in consulting?
