Non- equity shareholder comp tops out around 425, absent unusual circumstances. There are two types of equity A/B depending on your book. Target comp will go from 450 to 6 million or so depending on your book as an equity.
So, Ogletree values business development as a core principal and provides the tools for entrepreneurs to hone those skills and be rewarded. PPES were over a million last year, per the AmLaw 100 report. I’d say your typical equity A makes between 600-800k with approximately 25-30 percent making more than a million and ten percent making more than two million. But there is no limit depending on your originations so we have shareholders who make 3,4,5,7+ million dollars. They are the exception, not the rule, but they also are responsible for 10-25 million dollars in business to the firm.
I know there is a rule that the lowest paid shareholder must be paid a certain amount above the highest paid non-shareholder (typically an of counsel) in their office. I think it’s like 30k. Beyond this I have no insight into shareholder compensation.
