Thoughts on leaving PA primarily due to the metrics based culture (utilization, dtc, use of X digital tool, revenue, margin, etc). I find this aspect of PA stressful and exhausting but not sure if this is something you just get used to. Currently a manager and seems like the metrics just change over time / don’t get easier.

The problem with diversity is they focus on a quota rather than changing the culture of marginalized groups in the office. So often people speak over me, take credit for my ideas... and it's accepted.

Hi Everyone!

A company has made an offer and I wanted to understand if i'm being made a fool.

The monthly compensation is 1,37,500 (16,50,000 yearly) and Variable component (Bonus) is 1,50,000.

However in the offer it says "You shall be paid an annual compensation of Rs. 16,50,000/- per annum Cost to Company."

Which to me sounds like it doesn't consider 1,50,000 to be a part of CTC which is suspicious to me.

How should I deal with this?

What was the hardest class year for you? I used to think first year was by far the hardest but now I’m a third year and I’m really feeling the pressure to step up. Senior attorneys at v100, how common is it for attorneys who start at small firms to lateral to biglaw? Have you worked with any? How do you get good at thinking on your feet? I find I always need time to think and analyse before being able to answer client queries (even those that are considered simple by others). I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

I am on partnership track. However a few partners I work with started to act kind of cold lately. It is hard to put it on words. But this is getting harder as it hurts my feelings. I sort of feel left alone. It is like I am in a war to get what I want. Has anyone gone through similar experience during their partnership track? Any suggestions?

Can I leave my biglaw job 3 months before my COA clerkship? Not sure if it will look bad or like I have a gap in my resume. I’m going on 2 years at my firm and I can’t stand it. I’m burned out and the partners I work for told me not to take a vacation this year because of my upcoming clerkship. I have ALREADY billed 2,200 hours this year. I’m absolutely not coming back to this firm post-clerkship.

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

What does it mean when a partner gives associates, especially junior associates, origination credit? Practically, I don't think it makes a difference except maybe for bonuses, but I'm wondering if there's any deeper meaning than extending gratitude?
