Wanted to highlight Prudential Financial’s hiring practices. They rescinded my offer once I attempted to negotiate the salary. The official reason given was that I didn’t “sound excited enough”.
They then admittedly gave the offer to someone who was less qualified. There were other red flags throughout the job offer process that the HR team should overall be ashamed of.

BCG, MD are generally partner equivalent
The comp is a bit different with Big4 firms and partner type firms.
In my firm, Our comp is generally 35% base 35% bonus and 30% Long term equity based comp
In my observation for a similar book of business the total comp if often comparable and is in the 10% of originated / managed revenue. Junior MDs are in the 500k and Senior MDs are in the 1M+
I love how BCG1 gets away with commenting on this thread to keep the suspense going without adding any new intel 🤣
MD3 thanks for the clarification. $500K is principal level for us, and as I’m sure you know partner comp is pretty variable, but anecdotally seems higher than the numbers provided here
Consulting salaries have been going down or remained stagnant for many years now. These numbers are slightly lower than a survey we did 6 years ago
I don’t think BCG 1 knows what they’re talking about. We had this discussions with partners on the case team about this.
Ha. Partners at BCG start around $400k in base and goes up from there. Bonus typically at very least 75% of base but that’s low end. More usually it’s around 1.25x and above. High performers will make $1.5M after about 5 years as partner
I mean obviously if we could achieve and perform at mbb we wouldn’t be hanging around at big 4 right?
Bcg1, seems low for BCG?
Just looked at my total comp statement and with vacay and holidays monetized, about 10% higher than MD3
BCG1, are you shocked at how low these numbers are, compared to BCG?
Are MDs partner equivalents or one-two steps below? If partner/one step below, seems very low
PwC 2 , mind sharing what practice or city, be a bit vague if you want to?
I think our numbers are a little higher...
How much would google pay for an equivalent amount of responsibility? Don’t think the salary would be higher but the total comp?
From what I’ve seen, the comp at this level varies greatly. Country, experience, sales, bonus, big 4 vs strategy firm, practice area, etc all impact the numbers. MD title with expectations of generating business varies too. That said, the entry point is usually around $300k and goes way up from there depending on all the above
Anyone ready to hire me?
Only the top performing Principals get 500K for their total comp (this is >90% bonus so you can imagine). Partners for the first few years are probably on par with what just mentioned in this thread.
BCG5, don’t think that’s correct on either count
I’ve seen the data
^Terrible compensation. There are better ways to money
^Sarcasm aside, I’ve seen morons go to McKinsey from Deloitte and become engagement manager. Right place right time!
330 base, 20k bonus. Couple of years in as an MD.
