Checked luggage gets treated terribly. I don’t recommend targeting certain brands. Go to TJ Maxx or Marshalls and find one that fits your needs and just buy it. With weekly travel I’ve been able to get 2-3 years out of a bag and by then it’s so dirty you need a new one. Not worth the investment.
Briggs and Riley, travel pro, away. Not your suggestions.
But carry on > check in

Thanks. I agree with carry on, it is much more convenient.
But this is for 1-2 week trips where I need to carry a good amount of gear
North face base camp duffel if you don’t need wheels

I used to use to duffel bag especially because of those small American Eagle flights so
i don’t have to gate check the bag. Once I switched to four wheel carry on, i realized I was killing myself for no reason.
Really like my travelpro maxlites. Not sure on the durability but they’ve made it safely through 5 or 6 trips so far like a champ. Also not too much $$$ if a replacement is needed. I use the 29 inch spinner.
I’ve had my travel pros for YEARS. It’s the bean flight crew use mostly. It’s held up SO well and even at ~10 years old it doesn’t look that dated. I cannot say enough good things

Whatever you do, get the four wheeler instead of old school two wheel bag. Samsonite has been great for me with all the abuse checked bags endure and costwise. Also, if it breaks, i won’t need a loan to get a replacement.
Pro
I like Samsonite Silhouette. Macys often has it with 40% discounts.

Costco. Remember the thing with checked luggage is that you have to imagine it getting drop kicked across the tarmac like the handler is Ronaldo

I have Briggs & Riley check in luggage, a medium baseline wheeled duffel + a medium and large of the baseline 4 wheeled check in suitcase. This is more than enough for a family of four to sustain a month in EU/Asia travel.
I would not travel with any other brand if you plan on being hard with your “normal” travel (not off grid). When I spent weeks in jungles and other non-austere environments, I would travel with different gear.
Samsonite is good.
I don’t invest much in luggage because the airlines destroy it, particularly on international flights when they go into the 777/787/A340/A350/A380 cargo bins — bye bye wheels and zippers! Living as an expat, I’ve done multiple replacement claims after landing, and ended up with some pretty decent suicases. My latest favorite is an American Tourister that is the replacement United gave me after they ruined my bag. 4 wheels but opens at the top, expandable, super light, and comes in non-black. I think I have the Applite 4, but they are selling the Applite 5 now.
