I love the JW Marriott in San Fran or the Palace, but if you stay in a hotel in the city parking will be $80 per night. Fisherman’s wharf Marriott is also nice to stay in
No matter where you stay, NEVER leave anything valuable or visible in your car. So many tourists don’t realize how bad car break-ins are here. Even a charging cable or tissue box. When you park your car, make sure the interior is spotless.
Hotel Zetta, hands down. Valet the car though or find a nearby lot.

Meredian downtown SF is decent

Stayed at the JW Marriot near Union Sq as well. It was beautiful and clean, and security was tight to make sure no homeless folks lounged in the lobbies. Definitely recommend
I've like staying at a few smaller ones in Cow Hollow. They weren't fancy at all but I liked that the area was walkable to the places I wanted to go and they offered parking. I liked them more and felt safer to me than at the "nicer" hotels downtown.

I’ve only been twice but loved both places we stayed. They are very different.
1. Airbnb in an old Victorian by Alamo Square Park
2. Hotel: The Argonaut
Don’t stay downtown. You really won’t be spending that much time down there since more to do in other places and not worth hassle esp if renting a car.
Bring a coat also I don’t care what time of year you go. Always layers.
Get an air bnb anywhere but downtown!!! Do notttt stay downtown. I stayed in inner sunset and it was easy street parking!
