Treat them the way you want to be treated. That’s it.
Amaze them with your keyboard shortcuts and they’ll do what you say. You know you’ve got them when they say, “Yer a wizard.”
I currently have a younger manager and age should not be an issue ever, the focus should be on if I am competent in my role, adding value., and contributing to the team. As a former leader, the same thing applies and I focused on meeting each person where they are and supporting my there where they shared need and helping them with opportunities for growth- none of which had anything to do with age. Agism however innocent or mild is still a form of micro-aggression.
If you are in leadership, get used to it. As of 2022 millennials became 50% or higher in the workforce so we still have plenty of boomers out there, you are going to have this stretch of ages at any point going forward in leadership. I would do any books that speak to this, any leadership studies that speak to this, find yourself a mentor and see how they handle it but the more data you have the better off you’ll be.
Calling people millennials and boomers is not helping the conversation either. You are managing individuals who deserve respect not sub-culture cliches.
