I hear this so loudly. But the best advice I have is to avoid any mention of your expenses. A pay raise is recognition of a job well done and has nothing to do with how you choose to spend your pay (speaking as the company here). Focus on your job performance, key accomplishments, client wins, etc. Are you in line for a promotion? If so and it’s been put off, use that.

Agreed. You don’t get a raise because you need more money, you get one because you deserve one based on your work and your value to the team. People screw this up all the time.

Avoid mention of any personal expenses, as GD1 said.

Yes, we talked about a promotion before maternity leave, and was put off while I was out. Time to make it happen. Thanks for the tip- will keep the personal motivation out of it.

Received a job offer at a consulting firm as a data analytics consultant for $20k more than I am making now. I am torn on taking the job offer because my manager told me I was getting promoted at the end of the year to a data analyst. I am not sure what the salary range for a data analyst is at my current job. Should I take the job or wait it out to see what my end of year raise would look like? I really like my job and team so leaving would be tough, but this raise is something to consider.

I want to tell my supervisor that I'm not happy with my responsibilities anymore. I feel like I am not trending upward in growth and it seems like my duties have remained the same after years with the company. I'm not confident having these discussions either, so advice for being confident is helpful, too!

Is the grass always greener. I’m super happy in my current job. I like my coworkers, I get to do the projects that I want, and I have an all around good support network. I have also built my reputation up enough to the point where I have a lot of flexibility and can control how I work. But sometimes it bothers me knowing that I could leave and get a significant raise. Reading fishbowl it seems like everyone chases money regardless of how happy they are currently

I thought it went really well & she seemed very positive. She said she would follow up with the ceo (who I already met with) and let me know about next steps. I was originally told there would be 5 rounds and with every other round I’ve known next steps before I left the interview. This time I had to wait. Is this a good or a bad sign?

Is there a time when people generally “start” work remotely? Back when I was a summer before the pandemic, I commonly saw people go in between 9-10 am but I didn’t know what the norm is now that we are remote. I see emails at 8 am and I’m not sure if I’m expected to respond then or not. Also if you are on a deal where some of the members are in NY and you’re in the Midwest, are you expected to go by their times and be on when they are on?

Can’t decide between Cornell’s Metro vs. Americas EMBA program. They both seem to be great and offer an Cornell MBA upon graduation. Americas costs about 155k while the Metro NY costs 205k. Both programs are 60 credits in different formats. I can’t seem to understand the difference in price. I like the Americas program because of its flexibility (can attend from selected cities across the US so I would not be stuck in NY). I like the Metro NY for the in-person classroom environment.
