All I can say is network and keep those in your network close.
I luckily skipped the trading assistant role, but because I was able to market myself.
To be honest, I was super close to my front office at my previous bank, but despite promising me that they would move me to the front office they never did.
So I looked elsewhere, and my new manager saw my hunger and my personality. Which ultimately won her over. She even said that she passed on people with years of experience, certifications, etc. just merely for my personality. So maintaining and being able to make those social connections would be what I would recommend.
And patience obviously.
I would recommend communicating with your manager and your network within your current firm about your goals. In my experience, I have seen quite a few trading assistants/MO become front office by showing interest in the product/work. People will not be able to help you get to where you want to be if you’re not communicating your goals with them. If you have the option to reach out to HR or apply to trading roles internally, I think that would be the best option to break into trading
