Starting there is easier if an option
Sorry I meant starting in the US makes more sense on the long term if plan is to switch to the GCC region
I’m US citizen. Started in ME and moved to the US 5 years ago. But honestly feel like the move happened because I was in the right time and right place. It was a big adjustment for me but the experience now is well worth it. If you can start in the US I think that’s better.
I’m in consulting. The differences I noticed is that clients in the US are much more mature and relatively easier to contract with than in the ME. Doesn’t mean it’s not challenging here but the US has much more structured policies and regulations that makes it easier than the ME to do consulting business with.
The market in the US is enormous in any sector you go to. Which means more growth opportunities for you. You have to work in the US to appreciate how big the market is. This is something that I would consider if I decide to go back to ME. ME market just doesn’t compare to the US.
If you like travel you will like working in the US more. I love traveling and have absolutely enjoyed traveling here. The opportunity in ME is limited. In the US I’ve traveled coast to coast and this experience has been very rewarding at a personal and professional level.
These are just a few differences that come to mind but there are a lot more that I can elaborate on if you’re interested.
I didn’t downgrade with the transition. I moved at the same level I was in ME. Comp was comparable to what I made in ME even after tax.
You can start in ME and move to US internally with your company. That’s what I did. But moving to the US is not easy. So maybe consider applying in ME and US just to give it a shot? In my view the move from US to ME is much easier than the other way around and honestly building your professional foundation in the US is a worthwhile experience. It will be difficult to move to the US if you’ve moved too far up your career path. I moved very early on in my career and that helped me a lot because I got enough time to adjust, build my reputation, be on track with my peers without impacting my career progression. It takes a lot to prove yourself here and to build a brand for yourself. It also takes a lot to build relationships internally and with clients. And this is extremely important especially as you get to manager and senior manager level. It also takes years to build. The best level to move here is entry level or senior consultant. Definitely before you become a manger.
