We had evaluations and normally we have annual raises. I think my salary is under market value at $68k (plus OT) in Los Angeles (5 years of experience). I was told I am one of the top employees in the firm. When I asked about a raise, I was told “when you think about it at your level 5k to 10k doesn’t really matter it’s the long term goal that matters”. What would be your response to that, to a partner who is making 500-600k a year?

I have practiced for five years and make $121k as an employee of a financial services company. As the only attorney, I oversee all statewide collections efforts, from demand letter to garnishment, with a case volume of nearly 7k new cases per year, of which the majority I end up litigating. I receive only a $1k bonus per year. Is my compensation fair? My last insurance defense gig was $75k.

What would be a typical salary for a junior in house counsel role (3 yoe) at a publicly traded company in a secondary market (think Austin, Tampa, Charlotte)? How to go from “I want to go for early promo” convos to “I am burned out and need a break” without “burning the bridge” with leadership? I have always been a strong performer, my reviews are all perfect and the feedback I got from my coach and account leaders was to go for early promo next year - started talks accordingly. However, this performance came with being overworked and completely burning myself out after months of non-stop 70-80 hour weeks. Any advice on how to go about this?
