Exfoliate
Use exfoliating face wash with beads in it regularly.
I have very curly hair and honestly what finally got me to a good place was some needle tip tweezers to pull out the bad ones and never shaving too clean. I use no guard with a Phillips OneBlade if I need to look somewhat clean shaven, but anything truly close and I end up back in ingrown land when I let it grow out
This is what you want. Forget the girly label and thank me later.

I used to have a huge ingrown hair and pimple problem all over my body. I started to just use a loofa loaded up with dandruff shampoo every other day and really give myself a good scrub everywhere. Haven’t had a problem since. It’s been a year or so.
Now it doesn’t smell great. If I need to go out, I would usually just shower again an hour later with a better smelling shampoo. Make sure you get the “medicated” version of head and shoulders or selson blue. That has the good stuff.
