No. Most of us just buy the Index.
The beauty of this is we will get our share of the winners automatically.
S&P 500 does the heavy work for you. It’s always the top 500 companies.
Most managed funds don’t outperform an index. They spend millions of dollars on the best analysts and still aren’t beating the average. What makes you think you can be smarter than a managed fund?

I mostly just index, both domestic and international ETFs. I own a few stocks with a small portion of my portfolio, but these are ones I have thoroughly researched and believe in the long term story. I don't have time for more than maybe 2 of those, hence I mostly index. There is nothing wrong with matching the overall returns of the associated markets.
Buying individual stocks is like starting a company. You only do it when you have the knowledge to recognize a great opportunity before anyone else. When you do, you tend to go all in given the level of assurance you have to do such a thing.
This should be, by nature, a rare event in life.
When you’re not aware of such opportunities, you either stay in VOO or bonds until you find one.
