Hi Fishes,
I recently got an offer for Cyber security advisory at PwC India . They gave a 20% hike on the current amount. Thing is that l, the technical interview told me that it is not a software/coding type of position and asked me multiple times if I was interested to do that. Is that a red flag?

I have a 2.9 in MIS from a top 10 ...discouraged to even take the gmat.
Got into HBS with a 3.2. Couple of factors helped: UG was in sciences; got a stellar GPA in engineering masters; did above-average on GMAT
Went to info sessions, followed up with thank you emails and genuine and thoughtful questions for the admissions staff who ran the sessions. Repeat hellos to everyone I met from admissions at future adcom events until they knew who I was and built report with them. went to student coffee chats, followed up on those coffee chats with asks to be put in contact with current students in my areas of interest. Used the network effect of those intros to meet 10-15 students per school. Went to conferences with relevant professors and listened to them, asked thoughtful questions, and met them where possible. Used everything I learned to write killer and tailored essays for each school. Ensured every interaction I had went well, was humble, demonstrated competency and collegial attitude, repeated my brand message, and built report in a positive way. It was very very taxing mentally and physically on top of a normal consultant schedule w/ travel but worth it in the long run.
Sub 3.2 You should go for a 1 year or part time masters and get As. And get a 750+ gmat. It can be done. Don’t be discouraged.
3.2-3.5 I would take a couple math classes, get As at the best local university in the evenings and submit that with your application. And get a 750+ gmat.
Ba1 you’re right it doesn’t count towards the metrics, but it does give the school a sense that you will be okay academically and that you are a grinder and really want this. That is why the high gmat is critical. They will take a hit on the gpa average if you can help them pull up their gmat
3.4, got 3 interviews including one M7. Ask me again mid-December how things went!
Like A1, used the optional to address, supplemented by an excellent GMAT and a Berkeley Extension stats class.
3.4 applied to four M7 schools. Interviews with two. Did not explain or talk about anything GPA in essays. Full disclosure: high GMAT
3.45 GPA, didn’t explain in optional essay, got into top10 US News schools with full scholarships. Try to do really well on the GMAT and no one will care about the GPA
Applying with a 3.3 (engineering) — gotten interviews, so don’t really feel that it’s held me down. I used the optional essay to address classes that I did particular bad in (had an internship etc) and then referenced my my test scores as evidence of ability
I think as long as you can make up for it with solid test scores and recommendations/work experience you’re fine. I had a horrid GRE score (and GMAT 590 which I did not report) but a 3.7 GPA and got interviews at two of the M5 this round (not including Kellogg, since they interview everyone). We’ll see if I get into any though.
@C1: do you think master GPA helps? I was told that master GPA doesn’t count towards average GPA in the rankings so schools dont really care about it
3.3 GPA white guy. Made it to an M7. Networked hard and made up for it on the GMAT (760). HYP for UG.
3.2 with a handful of C’s at a public university. Made it to top 15 full ride
SC3, what classes did you get Cs in? Are you an URM? I’m a URM myself, so asking for that reason
@C2: thanks a lot for your detailed reply! I always wondered what it’s like to network for MBA events because there are always too many participants vs so few admission people so it’s hard to have a proper conversations without annoying the person next in line
@C2: how do you network for MBA admission ?
