Securities lawyer, I enjoy my job but its still just work to me. I never understood the type of person that wants to go to conferences and do panels and all that. Like people go spend time with your family or get a hobby. Work is something that gets in the way of life. It shouldn't be your life.

true, i thought those people attended to cheat on their spouses/SOs or to get away from the kids

the work is good, but current administration cavalier approach to regulations and regulatory bodies is making internal stakeholders similarly more emboldened to take more risks

Im also a Prod Counsel in Pharma. I know exactly what you are talking about. To a degree, it means job security for us.

I like it. I like my product so I enjoy supporting it. I’d rather be not working though

which product?
Tech in house. Generalist. For the past few years, I’ve mostly been busy with employment matters and litigation, which I really don't enjoy doing employment law
I like my job most of the time - interesting work, flexible schedule, great team. I’m investment counsel at a F500 financial services company. That said, there’s no path to promotion for me here, so eventually I’ll need to go elsewhere.
My department is super flat & has been for decades. I can only get promoted if my biz unit’s AGC leaves (& if that happened, all her reports would be competing for the role - several of whom have 5-10 years of experience on me) So, not impossible, but highly unlikely.
I finally found a job that I legitimately love. Solo in-house at an early stage company makes the work actually impactful. Busier than I’ve ever been, but my mental health is great compared to where I was in a firm.

Im in Pharma, and like what I do. I LOVE hearing patient testimonials.
The legal issues are varied and can be complex. I'm not easily replaceable (yet). Pay, Bene, and time-off are good (not great, but I have no complaints). Good legal team (we can be a little too close at times). I am healthier, in much better shape, I see my kids ... yeah, I dont think I would ever risk going back to a firm. I'll ride this wave as long as I can. I'm grateful
**I may be drinking the juice a little. I left private practice a few yrs ago and my last firm was ... rough. **
