Not really. Some people have their whole identity tied up in the military. My dad was EOD with six combat deployments, the last got him hit with a secondary IED and medically retired him. He’s got the bumper stickers and always wears ball caps, shirts etc that identify him as a Veteran.
My grandfather (WWII Infantry in Germany and Italy) was deeply involved in the creation of the WWII memorial, attended WWII vet conventions every year, and always wore his VFW hat.
My brother and I (Infantry and MI respectively) couldn’t care less, never identify as vets, other than old ACUs and BDUs in a box somewhere don’t have any military gear, and while I retired I don’t even bother with Tricare as my company offers way better.
Hell my brother was probably the biggest geardo when he was active, but since ETS doesn’t much talk about it.
People that talk about POGs are typically not very self aware. I served with a lot of great people from many career branches, some of whom died in the line of duty. Their sacrifices were in no way diminished by their status as “POGs”.
deployment is not really self-decided
and wasn’t like it was for anything good, so temper ur deployment pride a lil
Funny. Where I live, a lot of the guys rocking that gear aren’t even vets.

Peacocking happens with people of all kinds. It’s virtue signaling for vets. Bothers me more when they’re fat and unnecessarily tatted.
I'm a POG, and I enjoy gearing up (I don't have much) and shooting and training even though I ETS'd 20 years ago. I don't talk about it every day, all day, or bring it up out of the blue. Also, I only have 2 military related decals on my vehicle and a few Grunt Style t-shirts, but only the good ones.
I got that grunt style shirt of Lincoln riding a bear with a M4. Fuck yeah
The biggest vet bro types that you are referring to that I run into are the ones that never served but are covered in tactical gear.
Sometimes. They have their own weird tactical vibes. Usually it’s the “I Would’ve Served, But…” crowd. In the DC area it’s mostly contractors
no bad memories to push them away from reminders
Im cool with dudes having pride. I just don't like the fatties who still act like they are hitters. Even if they used to be lol
