Hi, I was freelancing and came on FT last year just in time for my cancer diagnosis. If you need to do chemo schedule for a Wednesday. Side effects exhaustion will kick in by EOD Friday. Good luck trying to balance work with treatments. I was wiped out and didn’t work. Chemo brain is a real thing as you get into treatments.
I wish you all the best possible outcomes. I’m so sorry.
Enthusiast
Yep. Did not even tell my team on the day of my double mastectomy. Got lucky as it was one of those “waiting for feedback,” days! Checked email all morning. Then the next morning awoke to copy feedback I had to implement and present. It was rough but I didn’t want to let the team down/lise the gig. Project finished a week later. I needed that job to fund my trips to other cities for surgical consults. I got lucky, it all worked out.
You had to go to other cities for surgical consult?
I worked through my diagnosis and surgery/radiation. No chemo, which I think would be harder to work through. My only advice would be to be open with your immediate supervisor. I told mine that I really wanted to keep working, and he was very supportive and helpful. Tell them what you need, and don’t feel like you have to be a superhero. I’m so sorry you’re going through it, and I’m wishing you strength and a complete recovery.
Wishing you the best
