Anyone get anything for admin day? I didn’t even remember but clearly my company didn’t either. Or they didn’t care about our hard work for the year

I got a firm branded bento box and lunchbox. Last year they sent a small branded cooler. I’m remote but they had lunch for those in office. Would have preferred money or for them to hire enough staff so we aren’t drowning but at least they didn’t forget I suppose lol

We got a lunch and $100 gift card

Maybe it's just me but I don't want to be acknowledged 🤣

I hate opening gifts in front of others also! And reading cards. But now a days, places just email a digital giftcard

We had a breakfast and 100 gift card

I got a sweet card signed by all the attorneys in my office (I’m in a smaller remote office from our main hub so there’s less of us), flowers, and they catered breakfast for us.

Feeling for everyone who felt they weren’t acknowledged properly - been there and it hurts.

Last year we did - gourmet popcorn sent to our homes. An actual joke

The firm had a lunch and a raffle. One of my attorneys brought me a donut. The others gave me nothing. It was really hurtful to see everyone with flowers and cards and gifts and I got a donut.

Wow! Lawyers can be insensitive pigs!

This actually reminds me last year my former firm at NY office hosted two holiday parties: one for staff on a Tuesday afternoon 3:30 - 5:00 at a conference room with FREE JUICE provided, another holiday party for attorneys at a rooftop in midtown west. No paralegals even bothered to go. Later attorneys started a holiday gift fund to raise money to equally distribute to 8 paralegals at NY office from 260 attorneys. We each got $30… and attorneys made it such a big deal harassing paralegals to come pick up cash in person. Once again, it’s a top firm showing shitty attitude to people.

I'm not surprised a bit. Attorneys have become very cheap and selfish. For that reason, I find "other ways" to get things ;-)

I got a $50 gift card, but I don’t even care. The best gift they could have given me is hiring two more competent people.

We got an email at 3pm the day before, saying they felt it right to postpone due to various internal goingson, that we would see an invitation for a luncheon soon, and that recognition was well-deserved. The gifts have not been extensive in the past (branded gear), but to say my hair wasn’t blown back is an understatement.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

I started working for a new law firm, much larger than the firm I was working for previously. The main attorney that I work under had noticed some mistakes I was making (I am a NY paralegal who took this position with the understanding that they’d be teaching me NJ and NYC real estate). Anyways, the attorney decided to tell the HR manager about the mistakes I had been making. Rather than HR discussing with me, the manager told my dramatic coworker to tell me..how should I handle this? Very hurt!

How do you know when it is time to move on. I am the only litigation paralegal billing over 2,500 a year consistently. Love the boss I work the most for but that person has grown distant. Staff reviews were supposed to be complete this week and no one has mentioned mine. Underpaid by about $30k per market value. Torn and confused.

For those of you who made the switch to in house/corporate law, what was your experience like? Did you have to take a lower position to gain the experience or were you able to argue that your soft skills were transferable to in house? I’ve been in litigation for 15 years and I’m looking to make the switch. Ultimately, I’d like to get into Legal Ops, but feel getting some in house experience first would be beneficial.

Are there any fully remote lawfirms, ie you don't have to live in the state they have offices? I recently left a large lawfirm to go in-house which came with a huge paycut that is not going to be sustainable long term, but needed a remote position to be able to move. I'd like to keep my current job part-time but get back in a lawfirm too.
