I’ve put myself up for L4 promo this cycle. Assuming I get it, what would be the best next steps to optimize for long-term growth/TC?
My understanding is that L5->L6 is extremely painful at Google. It may be easier to leave for a handful of years and gain managerial experience before returning.
L4->L5 is less challenging; however, I’m under the impression I can do this quicker at another company (if I leave after being freshly promo’d) AND get higher TC.
TC: 270K

Lmaoo so much misinformation in this. Pls fix
Where is guidehouse?
Senior consultant is L8 in Accenture and only in some practices like Strategy
OP, tech is not part of S&C generally.
Within S&C L8 doesn't generally exist

Kpmg is not US pathway for sure
I joined as a CL9 at ACN, spent about 1.5 years there and moved to OW as an Associate.
Just did!
Deloitte has started stretching staff levels from 2 to 3 years
Yeah, C and SC is now expected to do 3 years at each level, meaning 8 total years before manager without early promotions..
Was networking with an M/SM and was asking for tips on how they got early promotions during C/SC and they told me they didn’t, 2 years was standard back then.. lol
Mckinsey's is wrong here
Managing projects? EM. Selling projects? Partner. In between? Principal.
Pro
Worked at both firms. Sr consultant would likely be an Associate or early EM

Most of the big-4 do not actively recruit MBAs, except for some niche practices.
If they hire a MBA it’s by usually by happenstance and not by design.
For Kearney this is missing SBA and AP
Oliver Wyman: Consultant > Senior Consultant > Associate (MBA LVL) > Engagement Manager > Principal > Partner
PwC / S& is wrong = Sr manager btwn manager and Director (added around 2019 I think?)
Others said it, but that graphic is wrong. Or at least way out of date. I forgot when we phased out Senior Exec, but it’s been at least a decade.
Also if you’re in tech there’s a lot of extra levels. That aren’t represented in this. Onshore can be brought in at a level 12 (and 13 offshore)
Exact titles will vary by geography, but level 9 is a consultant or equivalent. S&C skip level 8 and just become a manager (level 7).
Before our last level harmonization, you’d see a lot of internal systems still call a level 8 a consultant. You actually have a right title for it, “associate manager,” but it would be fair to describe it as a senior consultant as well (I actually use that as an analogy whenever I’m on a S&C project that doesn’t interact with tech much)
How does the OW Principal total compensation look? I see bases are 235-270 ish, are bonuses 30-50%, or possibly more?
Wow so you had a total comp north of 235*1.8 = 423? That’s awesome and a lot more than EYP at the level equivalent… what does the bonus distribution curve look like, is 80% a median/mean or more of a top performer?

We don’t have analysts. This is a BS post
