To be fair basic in varying ways prepares you for the mental stress of actual combat by pushing you to the brink of exhaustion all in a fast transition window from civilian to military. This type of scenerio is the exception to the normal day at you local duty station or deployment. But I did miss the strenuous environment of basic as time went because it did make me better. It made everyone better.
Hi. Im living in Orlando and would like position in Industrial Electronics Technician applied to aviation and aerospace and telecommunications. 27 years of experience in Brasilia Air Force. If some know about , let me know and I’ll be grateful. Thanks
After going through basic I realized that the ones who had it easy were the ones who knew what to expect. I signed up thinking that it was going to be tough especially since I was not physically active during my civilian life. I tried to build some muscle and improve my cardio before enlisting, so when I arrived in basic my fitness level was enough to get me through the physical ordeals. The mental part is the toughest one to prepare for, though. What I did was just refrain from talking back to my drill sergeant no matter how tempting it was to respond to what he kept saying to me. One day at a time and then whaddaya know, I made it through.
Absolutely, a lot of folks find basic training to be far more challenging than being deployed. Basic training can be stressful for some people because it is meant to be emotionally and physically demanding. In addition, it is a totally new setting with entirely different standards of behavior than what you may be accustomed to in daily life. If you are unprepared, it may be challenging for you to adjust and learn the new standards and expectations. Also, the workout pace may be much faster than you are accustomed to, which might make it challenging to keep up.
Certainly, many individuals find basic training to be significantly more challenging than deployment. Many recruits find basic training to be a demanding and stressful experience because it is meant to push them to their physical and mental limits. Also, it can be challenging for recruits to get used to the stringent guidelines of basic training as well as the lack of autonomy they experience.
I would take my deployments any day over having to endure 15 days in the "BOX" at JRTC or NTC again. I always felt training centers are supposed to be harder than most deployment conditions, and rightfully so.
