They laid people off ...
I don’t get how they have layoffs but then recruiters reach out in LinkedIn yesterday to discuss opportunities …
OMD isn’t exactly a well run organization
it’s most likely the new technique of laying off staff in action. CEOs’ misjudgments on the economy, like Salesforce’s, lead to thousands of people laid off at once. that had a huge negative impact on the company’s image. so executives are trying new forms of quietly laying off people in small doses. i read about this last week
Probably makes sense laying off the higher up people first. Lots of cooks in the kitchen, more savings since their salaries are the highest in the organization
Which accounts did they lay people off from?
Wait what?!
How many people? Didn’t hear about it
The ones I know about (4) were directors + and they called it a reduction of force
The ones I know about were jr, ADs and below
Layoffs are all about ensuring C level bonuses stay firm. If you are fortunate to reach that level, you will do the same. It is unfortunate but a fact of life in the ad industry and especially at OMD.
Only saw 1 person exec level effected , I don’t think people should be worried at the moment. Sounds like it’s not many people and not across all accounts
NY
I know of at least 5 across different accounts….I assume there was more than the 5 I know
Main account I've heard it affecting was Pepsi
Most ve been strategically done across states so they don’t have to put warn notices. There’s isn’t anything in NY for this, I thought legally they had to
This happened last Q4 as well. Likely happens every year. Finances need to show "in the green" for year end for stakeholders. Flailing accounts lose the lead in charge and some folks with low performance reviews. Lots of accounts exiting and people get shifted around to cover and disperse. It's sad.
