I have an EA. I don't know what level you are but it depends on where you want to end up. Generally, if you can get the CPA I would go that route. EY used to accept the EA as an acceptable credential for promotion as standard practice but has since moved away from it and allows it on a case by case basis depending on what department you are in. So if you wanted to switch firms for example, not having the CPA could hurt you. If you are a higher level in a specialty group, and plan on leaving public to work in tax, CPA probably isn't as necessary unless you want a position where you sign off on financials at some point. Experience counts for a lot. I recently left EY and didn't have a problem getting a job without the CPA but I am in a specialty tax group that cared more about my experience and contacts. I couldn't sit for the CPA because I didn't have the right undergrad classes (I have a MST) and I didn't want to take another 10 classes. If I had the choice, I would have sat for the CPA even though I haven't had an issue getting a job in either public or private. It opens up more career avenues. If that helps at all....
The firm has a credentialing policy for each business unit in which you can ask HR. In general, the EA should be an acceptable credential.
Fast Forward Academy is good too. The online test bank is very similar to the real test. Part 2 was the hardest for me. Part 3 isn't too difficult. I studied for a few weeks for each part.

I got my EA just to promote. I'm in a tax group, but not tax technical. For my group specifically, the EA satisfied the credential requirement to promote.
Which tax group are you in which accepts EA in EY?
I'm in tax and it's recognized as a valid credential in my group. I'm a manager with EA only. We did have some people on partner track though who had to get their CPA done their last year as a director because you need the CPA or bar exam to make partner.
Totally doable. For part one I gave myself a month or so and got a significant portion of the chapters done. Part 2 I only read through a few chapters and part 3 I only had a couple days. Didn't think I would pass parts 2 or 3 but I did. I used gleim (there's a pwc discount if you purchase in the phone).
Sorry- on the phone, rather than online
Thanks for your responses, this is super helpful!
How long did it take to study and get it done? I'm hoping to get it done by January if possible.
What do you mean by purchase in the phone? Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it!
Thank you EY2!
PwC 2 - got it, will check it out...thanks!

PwC 3 actually I'm #smarter if an EA can get me the same promotion with half (maybe even quarter) the study time then why not?
