Shout out to Merging Vets and Players as something to look at. Different nonprofit but still conceptually aligned to use exercise and community as an outlet.
This is what I found via chatGPT:
The We Defy Foundation is a nonprofit organization based in McKinney, Texas, dedicated to empowering combat veterans with military-connected disabilities. Their mission is to provide these veterans with long-term means to overcome their challenges through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and fitness training.
Key Metrics:
Over $1 million raised in 2024: Demonstrating significant community and donor support.
More than 1,400 athlete scholarships awarded: Enabling veterans to train in BJJ at no personal cost.
A network of over 900 affiliate gyms: Providing accessible training locations across all 50 states, two U.S. territories, and Japan.
Over 600 veterans currently enrolled: Actively participating in programs that promote physical and mental well-being.
Programs and Opportunities:
Athlete Scholarships: Offering one-year scholarships for disabled combat veterans to train at approved BJJ facilities.
Affiliate Gyms: Partnering with gyms nationwide to create supportive training environments for veterans.
Ambassador Program: Encouraging individuals to assist with outreach, fundraising, and event organization to further the foundation's mission.
The foundation collaborates with organizations like FUJI Sports, which offers a line of We Defy-branded gear. Proceeds from these sales directly support the foundation's initiatives.

Very small and seem to run very lean - everyone is volunteer (no salaries). The guy at my gym just finished his year and had very positive things to say.
The idea is great in my mind. I’m only 6 months in on my BJJ journey but the benefits have been incredible. I could see this being a great therapeutic modality for a lot of vets.
I was considering becoming an ambassador with them to help fundraise and expand awareness. I have had mixed results with non-profits that seem great from the outside but have problems under the surface (Team Rubicon)
