Don't do it. AirBnB exists.
A slight notch above joining a multilevel marketing scheme
Avoid
^^^ Many timeshares are available for free as just the cost of maintenance is similar to renting a comparable condo
Many owners eventually want to stop the perpetual bleeding though fees
There’s a big resale market for timeshares, I hate them but if you’re really considering it look in to buying from an existing owner instead
Avoid. Benefit from others’ mistakes by renting them cheaply on VRBO.
Do the math... what does it cost to “buy” one week? Multiply that by 52. Is it consistent with the cost of buying comparable real estate?
What’s the resale market look like? What are the maintenance costs? Why are high pressure sales tactics needed to move them?
You got suckered, don't worry, it happened to me too. Fortunately I was able to give it back (obviously at a 100% loss), my BATNA to that was a charity willing to take it off my hands for a fee (160% loss). Could have been a good deal though if we only wanted to vacation to the one place for the next 30 years, I will never know.
My parents bought one in 2005. My dad literally gave it away for like $2k just to get rid of it like 10 years later
Buy used if u buy at all
Tons of people giving away their timeshares to unload the maintenance costs. Learn the rules of RCI or I... whatever the other name is.. exchanges.
Or just don’t get one:) you can find specific forums and ownership information for each of the properties at googling time share users group.
Don’t do it
Hard no
I have 3 of them over 1 million points that I use for family trips and rentals. For me it pays my fees every year. I also purchased 500k in resale so that helped with the all the other cost. Just make sure you use them or it is not worth it. My points are with wyndam
Avoid. I bought one and deeded it back to the company for free. Out about 10k on that transaction. Never touching it again
