Bain & Company Can someone recommend a good starting point on how to go around solving case interviews? What frameworks should I follow? I am kinda new to case interview and want to develop skills to solve them. Any books, online sources would be really appreciable. I’ve lived in both. I’d pick Boston for general quality of life, cool weather, history/music/theatre, and easy access to mountains and the major northeast cities. Houston for low cost of living, zero state taxes, amazing food scene, great baseball, and lovely winters. Depends what you want to prioritize.
I did it and have been pleased. Going on 5 years. Houston has more diversity, better food, and all the cultural offerings: museums, symphony, theater, orchestra, sports teams. People from all over the world (and again, food). It also has cheap real estate and no snow.
Downsides: hot weather, traffic, and obsession with UT and A&M. Fewer opportunities to walk, but a decent bicycle culture if you live inside the loop
All that said, I don’t really miss Boston.
Pats > Texans
Don’t

Not fair. I live in Houston and our office is probably 70% Trump haters. Our clients (oil and gas) are probably 45% Trump haters. I am a Trump hater who has a gun but is in favor of significant gun control.
Broad brushes ain't good
Moved to Texas from Philly. Houston is much better.
Thanks for initial thoughts. I'm trying to optimize for lower cost of living, no winter, and still be in a well connected city. Sounds like Houston has its trade offs but overall I'd be inclined to make the move
I have a 4000 sq ft house for $450,000. Don't think that's possible in Boston
Houston has a Democrat for a mayor, voted for Hillary by double digits, and had an openly lesbian mayor. So certainly not everyone is a Trump fanatic.
The diversity in Texas is unmatched. It’s truly a place where all kinds of backgrounds live and thrive
Houston is a pretty cool city - great food, very diverse, fun nightlife, close to Austin and beaches for weekends, etc... BUT it does not beat lots of other places. Ugh the summers. Go there right now. You will change your mind just walking off the plane.
Houston is a concrete jungle
You have to have a car to live in Houston, and you’ll spend a lot of time in it sitting in traffic, so make sure it’s one you like sitting in and enjoy driving.
Live in Boston from April-October, Houston the rest
Stay in Boston. MA taxes aren’t that bad, and quality of life is worlds better up there.
The heat and humidity don't seem as bad when I think about the New England winters and 4pm sunsets in November...
Don’t. What ARE you thinking???
More strip clubs in Houston...
Not Boston but have lived in CT, now in Houston. Like Houston much more.
Your quality of life will be much better in Texas. You will see more of your paycheck (no state income taxes). You will live in a bigger house in a better neighborhood with better schools.
All the above is nice until you realize they all are gun loving Trump supporters who drive like maniacs.
