Anyone know how firms make the decision to post available positions? Who is it that gives HR/marketing the go ahead to post a job opportunity? Managing partner, practice head, others?

There are literally 4,000 different answers for this, depending on each individual firm. Some have stacked associates and the partner in need directs the posting. In some firms, the firm management (management committee, equity shareholder group, etc.) perceives the need and directs the posting. Some firms have a recruiting or hiring partner who handles it individually. There are a number of other different ways too.

I currently earn $300,000USD as a 1st year in the London office of a V10. This is base + COLA, however, I am thinking of moving to the USA, because I feel that in the next 4 years when I leave biglaw I will have better in-house/ government opportunities in the USA than in the U.K.
I neither have family in the US nor in the U.K, so that’s not a consideration. But I feel that leaving all this money on the table to go earn 215K as a 2nd year Associate in the States is foolish. Any advice?

I’m a junior attorney, and my goal is to work in-house for a professional sports team (preferably an NBA, MLB or NFL team) or a record label, but of course these positions are highly-coveted. I started down the traditional path of working in biglaw (NYC) to receive the necessary training and experience while also trying to build relationships. However, biglaw really isn’t for me, and I’m exploring regional firms in Boston. Is it still possible to break into the sports/ent. industry? Any advice?

I work with great people. Really can’t say anything bad about my firm in general either. But…I still dislike the entire premise of law firm life, the billable hour, etc.. Has anyone here pivoted to a chief of staff position? Particularly interested in chief of staff for an in house legal team which may be too niche but generally curious about how you like it? Any tips for building management skills—I’ve found that big law attorneys are not the best managers (especially with large scaled projects) which seems to be a critical skill for a chief of staff.

Thanks!
