He could either volunteer time through Salesforce’s program that links up new admins with NonProfits to assist with their instances, or create a Dev Org, go through various configs and create a portfolio.
I’m going to be blunt and say the Admin cert doesn’t mean much without some proof of hands on work and experience. It proves you know the concepts, but applying those to actual business requirements is a different animal.
Trailhead Superbadges also help with creating a “portfolio” as they’re very akin to actual business requirements and necessitate knowing the content and being able to apply it with little guidance.
This ☝🏼
He can take a look into an official SF training program like SF Pathfinder, Deloitte Salesforce Consulting Select or Talent Stacker to get the cert, prof development and networking opportunities to get hired somewhere fairly quickly as a newbie. Or he can try to do it on his own, create some dev orgs, volunteer to do some free work to be able to demonstrate his abilities and then go try to get hired, most likely into an internship type program. I was in a similar boat last year where I wanted a career pivot from 15 yrs IT sales. Completed Pathfinder in 5-6 months and was hired into a position 2 months after I finished the program. The networking opportunities alone by being in that formal program were invaluable. It would’ve been much harder to get into a position like mine had I tried to do this all on my own without the built in network since I didn’t know anyone doing this that could’ve given me my first shot.
@D1 what is “Salesforce Consulting Select”?
I’m in the midst of trying to pivot my career away from Reporting & Analytics (data cleansing, transformation, and viz) to something more client facing. Hard part is getting an audience bc my resume is tailored to leadership and the technical aspects of my work.
There are a lot of smaller firms that hire the more junior consultants. Look at the App Exchange to find firms you may have not heard of but have decent ratings. You’d be surprised how many boutique Salesforce implementers there are where you can learn a lot.
Just look for junior roles, associate admin/entry level admin/associate consultant
College degree not required. Get into the platform through a dev org and build something to talk about.
