Applying to jobs at Booz Allen. What does the firm consider 'mid' vs 'junior'? Seeing both of these in job titles and I want to make sure I'm applying for the right role.

It’s the external mapping for our internal roles. So a Junior position is for our entry-level title of Consultant. Generally 0-2 years of experience.

Mid would be for our level 2 title of Senior Consultant. Generally 2-5 years of experience.

Sr. would be for level 3, associate (highest level of individual contributor). Generally at least 5 years of experience.

Mgr. is Lead Associate. Generally at least 7 years of experience.

Sr. Manager is Senior Associate. Generally at least 10 years of experience.

The last two are a little squishy in terms of years of experience. We have no up or out culture below executive leadership, so you can basically stay at any level for as long as you want, so there’s not really an upper threshold for the levels above Associate.

like

Loosely, a junior is new or less than 2 YOE. Mid is 1.5 to 5. Yes, there is some overlap. Yes, it's an oversimplification.

like

It also doesn’t matter too much— I’m hiring a junior vacancy, but salary range is up to $80k, and we can sponsor for a clearance. That’s a lot for someone with 1-2 YOE, so “junior” or “mid” doesn’t always equate to a salary range assessment

IMO, Booz Allen recruiting isn’t stellar, and their key word searches frequently miss qualified talent.

This will sound lame, but sometimes it’s just being someone’s referral— you basically go into a separate review bucket for consideration.

Let’s connect offline, maybe I can help!
