Honestly, there’s a lot to it if you find yourself connecting a lot or if you’re flying abroad, but honestly stateside they’re often overcrowded, food is mid to disappointing, and the lines can be long.
They’re great for a quick shower or meal when flying abroad, but if you find most of your travel is point to point, I’d rather just arrive slightly later to the airport and skip the need for the lounge altogether
I was in Doha in Sep and paid for a day pass. Apparently everyone else did too. The lounge was so full there were not 2 seats together, so we left. People were literally sitting on the floor. My friend had status on AA and we went to their lounge and I was her guest. Came back via Dubai. We walked the Emirates lounge to see if we wanted to pay for a day pass. We were not impressed and just parked ourselves in some comfy chairs.
I think they are worth it especially if you live in a hub of an airline you fly exclusively. After having access the last 5 years, I would never go without.
I get some lounge access for free from CHASE and AMEX cards and also find I rarely use it. The lounge is in another terminal, far away, or full, or I can’t get my spouse in on my card. Just used Priority Pass at Narita Airport (Tokyo) and the lounge was terrible, very bare minimum. Might be worth it if you frequently travel the same airline or route, or have a lot of delays and layovers.
They come with most credit cards and if it wasn't for that I wouldn't get it
Most credit cards with huge annual fees.
The fee is about $50 - which is worth paying for 2+ hours of layover AND you really don’t want to sit in a bar or restaurant instead, or if you want to shower. It’s much better when they’re not packed. an unoccupied gate is more peaceful than a full lounge.
Paying $400/year plus is worth it if you know you’ll use it at least once a month.
