keep busy. take it a minute at a time. if you want a drink put it off and get some food. sugar. call someone and talk about them. its brutal the first few weekends. the sheer time. but you can do it. I have 89 days today
Map out meetings you'll go to the next few days. You can go to more than one a day. Make friends at meetings and go for food/ coffee after.
You’re gonna be great! Keep busy. Go to museums, movies, take naps, eat a ton of ice cream. The moment you think about picking up, call someone
Try to hit a meeting of course and meet sober people to hang out with, if possible. Start getting and using phone numbers. I know it’s hard on advertising, but 90 meetings in 90 days does really help get a solid foundation of recovery under your belt. You got this!
One day at a time. Or one hour at a time. Good luck!
Always have an exit plan for any social event.
Indulge yourself in other ways, like pizza and ice cream and a movie marathon. It’s been almost two years for me and I still do this - hell, I’m doing it now!
If you’re into it, go to a meeting. Reach out to some sober friends or people who know what you’re going through. Keep checking in with us, if you don’t have someone to talk to about it with.
If you want, feel free to get in touch with me: unabashedpencilfish@gmail.com
It’s hard, especially the first weeks/months, but it does get better, and it’s completely worth it. Hang in there
Everyone else has given really good advice. I just want to say good luck. I have 101 days today, and if I can do it than anyone can. Sending you strength and love.
If it helps, I'm coming up on 16 years and it does get easier, but asking for help was still my hardest part. Thanks for being honest and sharing
Everyone has given solid advice. Keep busy is always good advice. As is go to meetings, but my favourite was indulge in sweets. Man in my early sobriety I exchanged a six pack for a tub of ice cream!
But most importantly stay away from the first drink, even if it’s 3 minutes at a time. If you can make it through a song once, you can do it again. Repeating this behaviour and expecting the same results will help return you to sanity. Reach out if the craving gets too strong. My email address is sobrietytwopointfive@gmail.com
How did it go, OP?
If you work the program, you will be able in a year to go anywhere and do anything. If there's a good reason to go out at night, you'll be there. And you'll be totally sober, in control and probably surprisingly charming to boot.
