I need to know if I’ve pigeon-holed myself. I have an undergrad in music business, and got a lot of good experience then. Worked in live events for 4 years before returning to law school, intending to practice in entertainment law (specifically music). Got a summer internship at a boutique entertainment firm, but no offer due to the small market. Moved to a larger market, but I’m not in one of the “hotspots”. I’m in-house currently, and have moved up quickly. (Cont.)

(Cont.) My ultimate goal is still to work as in-house counsel (GC eventually) in entertainment, but all listings I see are either on the coasts or require law firm experience. I’m in my 3rd year, and feel like I have the experience and skills, but without the firm experience I feel dead in the water. I’ve taken pro bono work in entertainment, and worked on international licensing deals. In my 9-5 I’m negotiating complex and varied agreements, advising multiple departments, and managing litigation in multiple jurisdictions and across varying practice areas. I even got a certificate in IP law while in law school and have attended the ABA forum for a couple of years trying to beef up those credentials. Have I blocked myself out here? What can I do to get my foot in the door? Not licensed to practice locally, in-house only (reason for pro-bono work).

Yup. Also music is booming on the tech side of things with streaming/content on twitch and other platforms. Sounds like you have/will have great experience to make a move to music/digital space. Have no fear

Might be that our field is no longer hot. I have a similar experience, but I’ve been more or less unemployed since graduating in 2017 as a result.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

Does anyone who switched from consulting to product management have any recommendations of h helpful PM books, courses, or programs?

I’m 25 and have found a duplex I’m considering purchasing as a rental property. Planning on renting both units and have the cash to make the down payment without an issue. My cash flow analysis has a payback period of 3 years for my down payment and a 13 year payback period for the whole investment. I think financially it makes sense. My question is, is it realistic for a 25 year old young professional to handle dealing with all the extra curricular’s that come with owning a rental property ?
