More like hiring from out of country. One specific country to be exact. My subway commute is filled with H1bs wearing Google, Meta, Snap, and Bloomberg etc. backpacks.

Your point about higher job density in New York is spot on, and it’s great that you’re already willing and able to handle the relocation yourself — that removes one of the biggest concerns employers usually have. When you apply, make sure to clearly state in your cover note or application that you’re planning to relocate to NYC (no sponsorship needed) and that you’re available to start quickly once you make the move. That helps a lot.
I’d encourage you to go ahead and apply to the roles that genuinely excite you. Even if some companies lean local first, plenty are open to interviewing strong remote/out-of-state candidates, especially if your background stands out.

Why don’t you just put that you’re in NYC on your resume? And then just be willing to travel quickly for an in person interview? You obviously wouldn’t be able to ask for relocation. I think it honestly does help when they use AI/machine learning to screen resumes so you can at least get to an interview
