Are most people here willing to take anything at this point? I was offered a job for $18 an hour working at a coffee shop that opens at 5am. I have a feeling after 2-3 months I won't be able to get up that early and be burned out. I feel like at this point we should be thankful for anything we can get.

Wait why would it burn you out? If you’re going in at 5am you’re likely getting off early like no later than 1pm.

like

Yea but starting at 4:30pm you would get off at like 1:30pm. Then you have the day to rest. It doesn’t sound like you’re working double shifts or anything. That’s a normal work schedule. Just the hours are shifted to earlier in the day.

If you need to find a job and you can do the work, sure, you should take it. Just having an income will be something to be thankful for. If you're going to be starting that early in the day you'll be finished by early afternoon, so you'll have time to look for something better. I've taken jobs I didn't like but they let me get my life stabilized until I could find something better, that's just reality at times.

Are you applying to be a manager? You’d have to take into consideration the location too. If you’re a barista, I don’t think you’d be making a high salary.

like

heck the Starbuck's Barista starts at 17.35 per hour

I need 20$ an hour

Ok done 18$

I believe you’re mistaken the concept of being burnt out with the fact that you don’t like the proposed hours of work. Just look for something else if this offer doesn’t work for you.

Depends if you need the money or not. Here $15 at fast food.

You gotta do what you gotta do

Any tips for hard launching partners on social media? For context, I’ve (Indian American female) been dating my white American boyfriend for 3 years and we just got engaged after two years of convincing my parents. They are very happy and excited now, but I’m scared shitless about being ostracized / judged by my extended family and Indian community in the US once I “let the cat out of the bag” on the engagement news. I want to be proud and confident about this but could use some moral support.

I strongly believe new hire onboarding should not sit in the HR/People Operations space but should sit in the HR Coordinator/HR Generalist space. As a new hire, they should be able to have a confirmed point of contact especially during their first 90 days and People Ops should not be that point of contact unless there’s system or access issues.

I’m struggling to figure out that out because I used to gauge it on the feeling I got while in their office during interviews. Any suggestions would be helpful :)

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

I’ve been approached my by company that one of our large clients (who im currently project managing for) is looking for a consultant of sorts, and if they hire us, I’d be the first person asked to take on this consultant role. This isn’t something my company typically offers and would greatly change the scope of my role. Has anyone ever taken on a role like this? If so, were you able to negotiate a percentage of the consulting fee? Or was it a bump in salary during the project?

I’m currently in a lease admin type role, in commercial real estate. I make a base salary of $50.5K with about $9k in bonuses. I’ve continuously received 7-10% raises over the last 3 years. I anticipate getting a promotion this year and would like to get closer to $60k for my base salary. I’m the only person in my role at the company and have been a key person in developing our team as we look to expand. Is this unreasonable? Is there a normal increase given with promotions? Thanks in advance!

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.
