Puns make writing social copy and other mindless low-level assignments way more fun. Puns r gr8.
If it works in one sense and not the other, then it’s cheap. If if it works on 2 or 3 levels that make sense in context, it’s smart.

Cheap puns are worthless to me, but a good pun that ties two distinct ideas together is gold, imo.

Depends on industry space the brand is in, and then it depends on the buyer persona, platform and on the overarching campaign (is it a funny/humorous = fun light hearted humor, or a more B2B tonality.)

Didn’t something called Cantroller win awards recently? And Cantenna? There have been many other “puns are sometimes okay” exceptions through the years. They will always come off as a bit lazy, but can be fairly clever. Those “can” ones were kinda puns in word and form, which is kinda fun.
Puns can be good if you can write comedy. If you have that knack, do it. Most of these cats can’t. Don’t listen if you can.
