Are there any writers here who have made your writing a business? I'd love to hear a little about how you went on this journey. I mainly write screenplays and short-format stories, and when I recently went on Upwork, I saw just how much demand there is for such styles of writing. I'm super inspired to start a freelance business after that trip to the website, but I'm just as clueless on how to go about it.

I started small by pitching articles and scripts to online platforms. Upwork is good but they do take a 10% cut. Over time, I landed recurring gigs and built a steady client base for screenplays and short stories. The biggest help was setting up a portfolio website and asking happy clients for referrals.

I did this for extra $ 10 or so years ago. At that time, you just had to be diligent about applying to open jobs and willing to work for very low rates initially just to get client reviews and work experience. After getting those first couple reviews, it got a lot easier to find more lucrative work. I haven't been on there in a while, but I would assume there are fewer opportunities and a lot more competition for them thanks to AI. Not saying not to go for it, just set realistic expectations.

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?

Friends, need some feedback on an idea:

I’m thinking of starting a podcast interviewing leaders at startups about their experience with specific challenges - I know, cliche, get a more original hobby, etc.

Not looking for the narrative arc of How I Built This or Masters of Scale. Instead, looking to uncover specific problems faced by companies that tried something new for the first time. What did they not see coming, how did they adapt and measure, etc.

What are your thoughts on this format?

Really confused as to whether to incorporate my NY- based makeup startup as an LLC or an S-corp? Not based in NYC if that matters and no revenue yet. Should I be looking into Delaware at all (specifically a Delaware C-Corp) if I do plan on raising capital at some point down the line? Also - for any FDA lawyers out there, what is the problem with developing makeup (specifically foundations) with SPF? I've heard it's "heavily regulated." What do I need to be aware of? Thanks in advance !!
