As a boss:

1. If you force people to do a certain action,
trust will be lost.

2. If you don't force people into certain actions you will never reach goals.

Number 1 or 2 and why?

I am dating a girl who’s from a pretty wealthy family. She is a great person but her norm of life puts a lot of pressure on me (e.g. only fly first class and only stay at luxury hotels). I am financially alright but just can’t afford that kind of lifestyle. Has anyone run into this kind of issue before? What do you do?

Going through a rough patch in relationship of 3yrs almost… we are both super independent to the point where we do a lot separately. (I.e he will go golf , I’ll go ride my horses.). But the things we DO do together he always invites his brother/family, like when we went to a day ranch trip the other day. Also, when he doesn’t want to do something I want to do, he just doesn’t do it whereas I compromise.

I’m just feeling a bit conflicted and lonely right now and don’t know how to talk to him.

I need some advice from advisors who have brought other “Junior” Advisors on. What is a fair split? Currently I have passed on my smaller clients to them, as well as providing consistent leads for them to call and meet with. The individual is working to build their own book of business, but up to now doesn’t have much production. They have only been in the business for about 2 years. I also provide an office and everything that comes with that, and admin assistance. Thanks in advance!

Additional Posts in Ethics In Business

Discrimination question. I’ve been passed for several job opportunities in the last 4 years. Hi all - asking for advice for a friend who resigned from his job (w/o job lined up) due to unethical and likely fraudulent actions leadership were taking. He tried to reason with the leadership team (c-suite, small company), but had no effect, so resigned since he would have to execute on those unethical/fraudulent decisions. He was only at this company for 3mo. He's looking for a new job and trying to figure out: what does he say when interviewers ask him why he left? Thank you in advance!

In small companies (especially startups), where HR may not really exist or the HR person may be the main violator, how do you deal with inappropriate behavior. If a person has been there a long time and is "too important to fire" how do you handle them?

At a startup I left because of this, my boss had been there since day 1. He was a nightmare. The last straw was when he took out his anger at a home issue on me and made fun of me for being upset. HR told me they couldn't do anything about him.

Hi everyone, wanted to come back and talk about the work environment at the Washington Redskins/Football Club -- the Washington Post story was pretty jaw dropping. One troubling angle was the use of NDAs to stifle victims. NDAs have for too long enabled bad behavior to continue, and it's time companies pledged to stop using NDAs in settlements with victims -- the coverup is worse than the bad acts. I think Warren torpedoed Bloomberg's campaign due to his use of NDAs. Thoughts?
