As a new remote associate at a firm, I try to stay on “green” so people can see I’m available although I don’t have a lot of work yet. What is the expectation, if any, as far as that goes?

This isn’t the best approach if your goal is to show you can take on work. I could be “green” but buried in work.

Just let people know you have capacity and don’t worry about Teams statuses.

Editing to add that availability like this is really just useful to know if someone is potentially available for a quick call or a question.

Bro I am the exact opposite. I got hired as a remote associate in March 2021 at my current firm and have been permanently yellow ever since. Two other associates do the same. People know I’m generally responsive on Teams and email, but I also retain the ability to just step away and not feel guilty about it. It’s great.

I was at a V50 previously where everyone was paranoid about keeping green.

Now I’m at Latham and our status goes yellow outside of 9am-6pm local time on work days. It’s amazing to not worry about staying green here.

Generally, I’ve found the expectation is to be green during working hours. I’d also let people know you’re interested in working with them directly (in person if you’re in the office).

Hey, as someone who started to really suffer after a year of trying to stay “green” for senior associates who literally monitored whether I was online in the evenings and on weekends, I have to recommend you steer clear. I like all of the advice to set yourself as yellow and set that expectation. It got so bad I had to have someone wiggle my mouse while I showered in the evening so the senior associate wouldn’t call to ask why I wasn’t working. I was in a particularly bad spot, but I really have to recommend you don’t prioritize staying green or set the expectation that you always will be.

I turned mine off. Almost everyone at my firm, including partners, don’t turn their thingy off. IDGAF and no one has said anything. No one cares.

Thanks appreciate the feedback from all.
I’ve been proactive about asking for work weekly and am getting some and anticipate getting more soon, but was wondering about status etc. while I’m not busy. It’s good to be able to take care of personal errands when I need to but I can’t always stay near the computer of keep my phone on.

Lol thank you

Hello,
I've recieved an offer from Morgan Stanley, my previous salary was around 6 Lpa and last offered was around 15 Lpa (WFH), I quoted 40 to 45% on top of that around 22 Lpa considering Mumbai location, WFO and Glassdoor pay range.
Did I just do a mistake by quoting too high a number? Please let me know your opinions.
