What’s the difference?
Do you mean unlimited PTO? Because standard vacation time and standard PTO are pretty much the same thing. Many companies have consolidated sick time and vacation time into a single category: PTO. But if you still earn days and the days have a monetary value, then the difference isn't very dramatic. But an unlimited PTO model is a different animal, and it benefits the employer moreso than the employee
If you are guaranteed a set amount of weeks each year, they have to pay it all out if you leave. If you earn PTO bi weekly or what ever, they only pay out what you have earned by the date you leave. It’s better for the company to use PTO.
It’s the exact same thing unless you’re referring to unlimited PTO.
At my last job I was there 14 years and got 18 pto days. It never went up all those years and never was able to carry over if you didn’t use then you lost them. It was truly horrible. Now with this new company, I have unlimited PTO which, despite what everyone says, I like much more. I don’t have to live in fear of taking vacation and then God forbid getting sick and having to go over my 18 days lol
