Get out
Thanks. Am trying to.
Run. Quickly.
Thank you. I’ve been looking and applying.
Did this for over a year; get out now. It’ll only get worse and as soon as you make a big mistake - which we all inevitably do - the MP will magically forget about how great you’ve been and tear into you.
Leave asap.
@A2
No it didn’t sound harsh. As you probably might imagine, my current situation makes me feel very responsible for the form’s clients/matters. I just have to keep reminding myself that it’s just business, and I shouldn’t have to be stuck in an unsustainable situation.
I’m the OP. Also want to add that when I was hired I was promised that there will be help. There is not.
The partner behaves like a rainmaker, which is fine if there is/are other partners (or senior level) attorneys who can be the “working partner.” There is no such attorney. Just me, a junior associate, who apparently has to answer for the firm (and risk myself).
To all: thanks for the comments. I am actively looking, and hopefully I can transition ASAP.
I am a little bit concerned about all the clients and their matter if/when I leave. Would it raise any ethical concerns? I do not think so as I am an associate, but am wondering if I should be concerned that I am basically “abandoning” the clients.
Thank you for your input. I appreciate it and will look into it.
I was in your shoes once. I decided to leave and start my own firm, reasoning that there was no reason for me to share/give most of the fees to the owner who was doing no work when I was the one handling everything. 8 years later and it's the best financial decision I've ever made. You still need to be able to get clients somehow if you go on your own, but if you're handling 100% of the matter anyway you may as well figure out a way to keep 100% of the fees.
Update: I just wanted to give an update. I started applying to different positions soon after (naturally). I got an offer and just gave my 2-weeks, and the firm is finally posting my position for “an immediate hire,” indicating that there was never a plan to hire anyone else (not even a paralegal).
Thanks all for all your input.
