It’s not just about the end result. For us, it’s about the individual needs of our kids—smaller classes, close community, more support, extra experiences, faith education. I also don’t know that they would thrive in public school and end up at the same place. Maybe you did, and your kids can. But that doesn’t mean that an individual kid would have the same results in public vs a specific private.
Both of my kids attend westminster. It is a very tough school.
I would ask yourself what is your goal of having your kids go there.
If it is to get into UGA or Harvard. Don’t.
actually at a disadvantage. They only want to take a few kids from each school and your kid will be competing against really top kids.
If it is to prepare your kids to work hard and learn to have resilience. It’s good for that.
They may not get into the dream school, but they will kick ass wherever they go.
9 of my family members (me, siblings, nieces, nephews, kids,..) have attended lovett, westminster, and pace.
each year we look at what schools the seniors are going to
we have talked with other school admission counselors. we talk with other parents.
Go to the schools if you want to. they are good. but go for the right reason. not solely because you think your kid is getting to Ivy because of it.
Is private school worth it if your kids end up in the same colleges as the kids that didn't go to private school? My neighbor went to Marist when we were in high-school, but we both ended up a GA state in college. What is the value proposition in sending one's kids to private school?
If your kid is average, there is little benefit. If your kid is very smart or needs extra support, there is other a benefit. For the very top boarding schools (not just your local private school), the network alone can be worth it.
Admitted to 2 of 3 with Superior.
Thank you!
New to ATL: do kids in K-5 get scholarships at these private schools? I read their materials and it sounded like scholarships are only for 6-12.
