Wow, that's scary. Hopefully you, your coworkers, and the students are safe.
There is a law that every District must have a Workplace Violence Protection Plan. Also, I think under CA Ed Code that teachers are mandated to report violent students. Have your union look into it.
Prior disciplinary actions/history is actually confidential and requires parental consent for disclosure, per FERPAa. I know when we would do suicide assessments and or threat assessments, if I knew the teacher wouldn’t share w others I’d get them up to speed. If I thought or knew they’d talk about it in the lunch room or their teammates , I actually do not share. The principal gets paid to deal with it, not me.
I always found the “dangerous student” issue to be interesting because of OSHA laws. If Ricky were a can of gasoline he definitely wouldn’t be allowed in your classroom but he’s dangerous as is-with his razor blades and metal shards and horrible history.
