If you are talking about our Knowledge Team (internally known as KT), the good folks are treasured. High amounts of variability with regards to how teams are run, depending greatly on the practice area. The KT folks in Houston and Dallas seem to be good and have a good experience at BCG. Can’t speak for elsewhere
Any chance you're based in Houston yourself?
I did the client facing part of it beforehand for three years straight out of undergrad and decided to go with the branding instead. It's definitely more of a work-life balance than client facing consulting, even though some K&A guys such as myself are staffed on cases and travel ~50%. Best move of my career yet.
@bcg2, I dug up my old offer letter, it stated 75k, my bad.
Isnt it back Office support and not actual consulting?
OP, I'm a part of Knowledge & Analytics. It's a pretty large group with very diverse roles. Can you tell me what role you're interviewing for?
I had an interview with them as well--it's support internal not client facing
OP, I've only briefly interacted with that team. It's a tight knit group and steadily expanding. Not sure about the nature of work they're doing, since I'm in a whole different vertical and industry.
And to clarify, Knowledge & Analytics is a pretty huge Business Unit with multiple verticals and industries. It sounds like the position you're seeking out is at the Knowledge Team vertical in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (TMT) industry, which is a great intersection to be at.
I'll be on vacation next week but if you get in, drop a burner and I'll be glad to meet up!
PS I just want to add, that working in K&A is an AMAZING balance between pure consulting and an industry job in terms of compensation, benefits, prestige, work life balance, travel, and pretty much everything else.
@A1 all of core BCG (at least in the North American region) has identical benefits except for base compensation and bonus %. By core, I'm referring to consulting, Knowledge & Analytics, Gamma, and Business Services. Not subsidiaries like Digital Ventures and Platinion (not sure about them).
How's the pay and career structure in K&A?
Op are you expecting case interviews?
Does anyone know if lateral hires ( Project leader/Principal) etc also follow case interviews?
AC1 - not in this round. Maybe next round - probably after holidays. This one is call with recruiter
While I really appreciate people from other companies chiming in, a lot of their comments are incorrect assumptions, likely based on how their own companies operate.
Knowledge & Analytics roles (not all, but about 30-40%) do in fact involve being staffed on a case, traveling M-Th to client sites, and helping drive process, decisions, and thought partnering on solutions (often more than the actual Consultants). That sounds like consulting to me, albeit lacking the title. If I were to give us a more apt title, it'd be Solutions Consultant.
Once again, I speak from firsthand personal experience in one of these roles.
Jumping ship?
Yes.. maybe. At a big4 right now.
OP - how did you get an interview? Referral or online app?
I turned down a senior knowledge analyst role a few years back. After the interview process, which was a recruiter screen, a tech screen, a director/team lead screen, two partner screens.
I meant after the interview process (which was as detailed above), I decided I wanted to get front-end client facing experience for awhile
Although I think back on the missed opportunity and the branding it would have done on my resume. Haha
Thanks everyone this helps.
BCG2 - which sub team are you in. I’m interviewing for Big Data Analytics
Does KT provide the same benefits as client facing? PTO, 401K match, pension if applicable, etc?
